The only break is a thirty minute lunch break, which isn't even peaceful because there's no room to escape from other things. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle in those few thirty minutes, you should eat in the lobby or outside. I keep asking to change my schedule so I can live a more balanced life, but managers keep telling me to hire more people first (which I know will always take time). When a thug threw a drink at me for no reason, I told the manager and she did nothing about it. I left when the superintendent was selling cheese with flies to customers (yes, she knew).

Pure real chaos. I worked there for a little over a year with no recognition for my hard work. I gave up my whole life for this job and tried 100% every day. I've given everything and I'm fine. There is so much heat in the air, so much anger and stress. Unprofessional superiors such as managers. They contribute and create silly drama. Have you ever stuck out your car window on your way to work, only to see humble motorcyclists riding bombs and motorcycles all over the street? This was my first job in 1987 when I worked at a McDonald's steakhouse. I started out as a helper but soon I was running the whole grill on my own and I was still a beginner so I just kept my mouth shut and took in as much as I could. I learned how to clean the grill, the vent, the fryer, you can pull everything off the wall and it comes out clean. 25 years later I walk into every store and never notice how clean or dirty the places are, thank you McDonald's.

I had an interview with another company over lunch at a local store. The store manager came several times. I think she didn't like us being there for the interview. Well, I was wrong! When I went to the counter to buy chips to go, he handed me an application form and said, "I heard what you said and I'd like to hire you as an employee." He works in a fast food restaurant. I am glad that I completed this application. I really enjoy my job and the owner of the franchise is a great lady! Our store was selected as a test store "made for you" and as a closing manager I saw them replace all equipment. To this day I consider it an honor (and a very cool event). The level of education, empathy, trust and expectations I was given will always be something I will cherish. McDonald's isn't really just a "burger." Some managers favor certain colleagues and most of us co-sleep. They steal food and money from people's coffers, try to say they are short of money so you can put money in their pockets. I will never work or recommend anyone to work at McDonald's and they have customers who treat employees in different ways.

I was a crew member for two years. A management opportunity presented itself and I was told I was not right for the position. Fast forward two weeks later, with no potential hires for the position, the general manager sat me down and asked if I wanted to join management. I barely accepted the position, although not many people applied, so they offered me the job. I ended up taking this position on vacation. As the months passed, it became clear that there were a few managers who couldn't fulfill their shifts and that I might not be right for the job. My dedication and great work ethic have put me in many stressful situations. Upper management is rubbish and cannot run a restaurant business. After years of not pushing myself to do better, I finally did. This is the best decision of my life. I might make a dollar or two less, but I'll take that in lieu of my mental and physical health deteriorating.

McDonald's teaches you how to fake a smile for a customer while feeling valued. Senior management using words that sound professional but actually aren't can make you feel bad about yourself. I worked at McDonald's for 11 months and every day was full of fear. All but one of the managers treated me like garbage. Nobody respects me. I was always called out as a child for every little mistake I made. Then general manager Mashelda Harper was the worst of them all. He always expects 150% from all of us. He really can't stand someone standing there for five seconds to catch his breath. During the time I worked there I had at least 10 anxiety attacks that made me feel like there was nothing I could do but deal with it. I'm a good worker, I do my job, I give my all like everyone else, and I've only heard once from the GM that I did a good job. But the way he says it feels more passive and aggressive. Her exact words were, "You did a great job today." I couldn't help but think that meant I wasn't doing a good job every day. Because of this experience I will never work in the food industry again.

McDonald's was my first real job and it was the best job for me in terms of work/student balance. Yes, I was tired, but McDonald's helped me stop being a totally broke college student. I was able to buy the things I needed during my education. McDonald's got me started in the real world and I worked with them for five years. From high school students to graduates.

When I first started working at McDonald's, the first few days were fun, but then the manager started sending me home early because I wasn't making enough progress and it seemed like I didn't want to work. The next day I tried my best to get the estimate from the manager but they didn't understand. They just expect too much from a new man, someone who has never worked anywhere. I hope that about half of the managers realize how much effort I put in and start to feel valued. But one of the main managers was not very friendly and suddenly started asking strange questions. Ask me how much a basket of chips/chicken nuggets weighs versus how much a bag of chips weighs. It also usually makes you feel bad because you don't understand most things in the building. But overall, apart from half of the toxic managers, it's a lot of fun to work at McDonald's. Oh and the main manager Flora is very nice and caring.
Pros and cons
You get a free meal (a burger, fries and a small drink)
